How to Read a Multiplication Chart, Step by Step

Here are easy steps to follow

  1. Select two numbers you want to multiply them
  2. From the left-hand column, find the number at first
  3. From the top row , find the number at second
  4. Find your answer by following the row and column to that point they meet. That’s the answer.

For Example: 8 ×  6 → Row 8 + Column 6 → joining point is the answer 48.

History of the Multiplication Chart

The idea of multiplication chart dates back over 4,000 years as the first multiplication tables set on clay tablets was introduced by the ancient Babylonians. With the passage of time the need of faster math for building and trading increased so merchants took these tables along them as we use and carry calculator today. The peopleperformed successfully in trading who used and memorized the tables. On the other hand, Babylonian students find it tough, as instead of 10s they counted in 60s, so they had to memorize up to the 59 time table.
